This Is How You Should Be Sanitising Hotel Rooms During Your Staycay

The way we holiday has undoubtedly changed. If you’re planning a getaway, you’re going to want to be as safe as you can. This means practising the necessary SOPs and giving your hotel room a quick round of disinfection.

Of course, hotels and accommodations would already be doing disinfections for the convenience and safety of their guests, but it doesn’t hurt to be cautious. So while that freshly-made hotel bed is mighty tempting as you walk into your room, do these first:

#1 Sanitise your hands

To prevent germs from spreading around the room, make sure your hands are clean before you do anything.

#2 Give your bag or luggage a good wipe-down

Whilst in transit between your home and the hotel room, there’s a slight possibility that your luggage or bag may have come in contact with unsanitised surface. So make sure to disinfect it too.

#3 Get some ventilation into the room

If your room has windows or sliding doors that can be opened, do it to ventilate your space—so any airborne germs can escape and so you get some fresh air too.

#4 Clean the ‘hotspots’ with disinfecting sprays or wipes

By now, you should be carrying disinfecting spray or wipes everywhere you go. Remember, you’re looking for ones with disinfecting properties, preferable containing 70% alcohol—everyday wet wipes aren’t going to cut it.

If you’ve got a spray with you, give the entire space a good spritz. Then, zoom in on frequently used objects or high-touch points such as door handles, faucets and switches, including these often-overlooked spots:

  • Keypad of the in-room safe
  • Pillow sheets
  • TV, air-conditioner or other remote controls
  • Alarm clock or sound system
  • Information booklet or brochure
  • In-room stationery such as pen and notepad
  • In-room hairdryer

#5 Rinse the glasses and cutleries

Don’t forget about the glasses, cups or cutleries provided too. If you’re going to use them, make sure to wash with soap and hot water beforehand.

#6 Put aside decorative pillows that you don’t need

Chances are, your room will come with decorative pillows and covers that you’re probably not going to need. Keep these aside in the cupboard.

#7 Wash your hands again

When all is done, wash your hands again and let the holiday begin!
